Q: What is Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Science? And what does it have to do with my skin anyway?
A: "Ayur-veda" is a combination of Sanscrit words meaning “Life & Science”.. The practice of Ayurveda is known as the oldest medical system in the world. Ayurvedic practitioners have been studying and refining the science of herbal infusions, essentials oils and other botanical lore as it pertains to the skin for literally thousands of years. While it is beyond our scope to provide more than the basics here, there are three different body types or 'Doshas' in Ayurvedic practice. When we are out of balance for one reason or another, our predominant Dosha manifests itself in various skin problems. Take our interactive 'FIND YOUR DOSHA' quiz with product recommendations for your type.
Q: This seems complicated! I would rather use my 'regular' skin type, like 'dry' or 'normal' etc. Can I do that instead?
A: Absolutely!! The concepts behind Ayurveda fit perfectly with the best skin care advice in any language or culture. We chose to base our product formulas on authentic Ayurvedic skincare prescriptions because we felt that these formulas... compounded with the highest quality organic botanicals, are literally the best skin care available on the planet. Many of our products are what is termed 'Tridosha' meaning they will work well for all skin types. Otherwise, all our products are clearly labeled with American/Western skin care types as well as the Ayurvedic types.
Q: Are organic products really that much different from ordinary products?
A: In a word.. YES!! What is truly shocking (to us) is the idea that most people seem to have complete trust in the manufacturers of skin care products... to the point of not even reading the ingredients! Most people are plastering their skin daily with creams and lotions containing many useless and even detrimental chemicals...and don't have the first idea of what they are actually using. Even though it's right there in print! Why?? They have been conditioned to believe the hype on the front of the label. For example: Many commercial products will advertise expensive organic ingredients, when in fact those ingredients compromise less than 1% of the product total.
Q: I've read that the terms 'Organic' and 'Natural' don't really mean that much when it comes to ingredient sources.
A: That used to be the case. So many manufacturers bandied these terms around loosely that the FDA stepped in, and now there is a 'certified' organic standard for both food and cosmetic products that ensures the customer that the ingredients were grown under organic conditions. When it comes to our 100% organic Aryu-Deva Renewal Therapy line, we here at Teva Skin Science buy our ingredients from literally all over the world. Our ingredients are either certified organic or 'wild-crafted' which means harvested in the wild in remote areas where pesticides/herbicides are not used. Once again, we cannot emphasize the importance of reading the ingredient panel on your products! If you see lots of unpronounceable chemical names mixed in with a 'natural' sounding ingredient here and there, you can be fairly certain you are not getting an all natural product containing organic ingredients.
Q: You emphasize reading the label for ingredients. And yet, when I read the label on most of your serums, I see the main ingredients are essential oils. Even for your Oily skin formulas! Why would I want to put more oil on my skin!?
A: We applaud you for reading labels and asking questions! This is where informed intelligent consumer choices begin. A short history lesson.. Once upon a time only the wealthiest people could afford to use precious essential oils. Predating even Cleopatra, essential oils combined with specific botanical extracts have been well known across the ages in all cultures to be extremely effective for anti aging and skin balancing. With the advent of the industrial age in the late 1800's the technology for producing cheap petroleum by-product 'face creams'...Basically mineral oils whipped together with water (remember your mother/grandmother's 'Cold Cream'?) these creams quickly became all the rage, and the stage was set for advertisers to start promoting creams as being more modern and therefore "better" than oils for your skin.
The truth is that petroleum based oils/creams do offer some moisturizing benefit in that they retain water for a while by forming a barrier on your skin, but that same barrier also has so many drawbacks from the point of skin health, that they are not a good choice when it comes to effective skin care. Pure essential oils and botanical extracts formulated for specific skin types based on Ayurvedic prescriptions not only absorb instantly, they go to work healing the skin and balancing conditions such as rosacea and oily skin. Contrary to popular opinion, mopping up excess oil with harsh products will not fix the situation.. In fact the skin will more often than not fight back by producing even MORE oil! All of our Renewal Therapy serums and moisturizers vanish within seconds, leaving no greasy residue behind to interfere with your makeup or clog your pores.
Q: Why are your products smaller and/or more expensive compared to some other brands?
A: If you are talking about drug store brands..the answer is that the size of a bottle is a terrible predictor for how much effective product is contained therein. Let us explain: Almost all commercially available products are 50-90% WATER... Whereas many of our products have no water at all.. and the ones that do have a very high concentration of expensive active ingredients. Our products are made from the highest quality concentrated organic botanical extracts and essential oils.
If you will (once again) check the label on your current products, you will be shocked to find that 99% of the time the first ingredient is water (or Aqual or Eau..just other names for water) and then generally some petrochemical oil or carrier...(mineral oil, stearic acid etc are all other names for petrochemicals). Almost always..Any effective ingredient(s) in these products is at the tail end of the list..meaning the product in actuality only contains a tiny amount of that ingredient!
It is tempting to say you get what you pay for, but the sad fact is that when it comes to skin care, the vast majority of commercial available products are sadly lacking in meaningful ingredients. You are usually paying for packaging and advertising and maybe a few cents for what's inside. Comparing our products to theirs is more often than not like comparing Kool-Aid to Dom Perignon!
Secondly, if you are talking about high end spa products found in your local estheticians office or dermatologist or even expensive department store brands, we will stand head to head with them, when it comes to percentage of effective ingredients and cost per ounce. Most of them literally have about half the ingredient concentration at about twice the price. We can bring you high quality ingredients in meaningful concentration because we don't have a huge advertising budget with full page magazine ads and infomercials on TV.
NOTE: If you don't agree after using our products that they are a bargain compared to other brands, (when considering effectiveness AND product concentration)..Ie; All our products outlast commercial brands many times over.. We will cheerfully refund your money!
